The Amazing Performance MP4-12C

(mclaren.com) With the MP4-12C, we aimed to deliver a car which satisfied our goals for breathtaking performance as well as excellent driveability in all road conditions – to create a car without compromise. This unique approach saw our team focussing not just on performance figures, but also maintaining comfort, practicality, driveability and an outstanding ownership experience.

Our key targets included:

Highest power with fastest acceleration and braking across all typical benchmark
speed and distance parameters

Highest power to weight ratio

Lowest CO2 output and best fuel consumption

Today we are delighted to announce that through a combination of innovation and expertise, we have succeeded in our ambitions to make the MP4-12C the best car in it's class. Along the way we have redefined the traditional benchmarks for the high performance sportscar segment.

Dick Glover, Technical Director at McLaren Automotive, enjoyed 12 years at McLaren Racing where, among his many achievements, he designed the Formula 1 simulator that has also been used in the 12C development programme. “We’re intensely proud of the 12C,” said Dick. “The really exciting challenge for us was that to set new performance benchmarks, we had to introduce innovative new technologies. In that respect, we have worked like a Formula 1 team where you are constantly trying to improve performance, not against fixed parameters, but to win against competitors who are also constantly improving.

"The 12C is a huge technical accomplishment, but also a car filled with the passion and dedication that comes with working at McLaren."
